French Market Rebounds With Online Driving Increase

The French gambling market recorded gross gambling revenue (GGR) of €10.7 billion in 2021. The results were an improvement on 2020’s levels, though still underperformed 2019’s high of €11.91 billion.

Lottery and sports betting segments provided the strongest results. Online gambling also showed the largest increase, particularly boosted during the pandemic when punters’ bricks-and-mortar options were limited. In France, a state duopoly sees two operators - Française des Jeux and Pari Mutuel Urbain - account for 70% of GGR.

PokerStars Launches New Exchange Product

PokerStars customers can now enter their own odds and bet against other customers on the new PokerStars Exchange. The Flutter-owned brand introduced its new product, which utilises the same liquidity pool as the Betfair Exchange, this month.   

Richard Garrod, director of product at PokerStars, said that “after months of hard work and execution, we’re thrilled to offer PokerStars players this addition to the PokerStars portfolio.”

Founder Of Belarusian iGaming Firm Softswiss Supports Ukraine

Ivan Montik, founder of the Belarusian-originated company Softswiss, has a track record of speaking out against his home country’s leadership.  “Unfortunately,” he explains, “Belarus has become part of this war and is politically on the aggressor’s side.”

With offices in Germany, Malta, Georgia and Poland, Softswiss has supported employees wishing to leave Belarus. “Our employees are privileged to have a choice, and the war in Ukraine helped many of them realise that relocation is currently the only way to bring their families to safety.”

Flutter To Expand Romanian Tech Hub To 1,500

500 new recruits will be welcomed to Flutter’s Cluj Napoca tech hub by the end of 2023. The expansion will bring the total team to 1,500, comprising specialists in software programming, data security and management, IT infrastructure and technical assistance.

Area general manager Ioana Popa commented that “it’s an ambitious plan and the steady growth rate we’ve had, including over the last two years, gives us confidence that it’s realistic to achieve.”
